Feathered Food for Thought (Entry #9)

Friday, July 12th, 2024 Feathered Food for Thought (Entry #9) Hello Everyone,  Food is a part of our everyday lives, yet how often do we stop to ponder what exactly goes into the meals we consume? In a world where convenience often trumps conscientiousness, it's easy to overlook the profound implications of our food choices. But maybe we also have to consider that it's not our choice that's changing, but our environment as it evolves forcing trends of higher calories and unhealthier foods. The comic that I chose will show how acknowledging issues with our food environment will tackle how we should perceive these industries.    image source I think the comic immediately captures your attention with the contrast between the two pigeons. We see one healthy-looking pigeon while the other is certainly obese, with a fry in its mouth. I think the reason why this contrast is effective and necessary is because we typically don't bat an eye if it were humans. As obesity becom...

The Pros and Cons of Self-Driving Cars: Are They Safer? (Entry #8)

Image
Sunday, July 7th, 2024 The Pros and Cons of Self-Driving Cars: Are They Safer? Hello, Everyone If you've been keeping up with technological advances, then you should be familiar with self-driving cars. With our technology advancing at unprecedented paces and moving from a realm of science fiction to reality, should we be concerned with so called autonomous vehicles? I think we should explore what the pros and cons are of self-driving cars in order to answer these types of questions. Waymo Driver Video Link Pros:  Reduced Human Error : Human error is responsible for ~94% of traffic accident ( According to a study by NHTSA ), but self-driving cars are equipped with advanced sensors and algorithms that are designed to eliminate this factor. With such advanced technology in sensors and improving algorithms, self-driving cars potentially could reduce the number of accidents significantly. Consistent Performance : A main upside in self-driving cars is their ability to maintain a co...

Sunday, July 7th, 2024 Fresh (Entry #7) Hello Everyone,  Given that many of you are my peers and our professor assigned us to watch the film "Fresh", I can only assume that you all watched the film "Fresh". However, I can't trust my assumption being absolute truth, so for those who may not have watched it or perhaps put the film at 2x speed and didn't catch all the details, here's my breakdown on "Fresh". image source Let's start with my takeaway from "Fresh", it left me with many thoughts and emotions about the origins of our food. It made me question the systems and the industries that produce our food. Fresh is not only a typically documentary film so that viewers can learn about what's really going on when we get food on our plates, but also a wake-up call to consider how our food is grown, processed, and delivered onto our plates. The purpose of the film is to raise awareness about the industrial food production system a...
