Hello Everyone,

However, I can't trust my assumption being absolute truth, so for those who may not have watched it or perhaps put the film at 2x speed and didn't catch all the details, here's my breakdown on "Fresh".

Let's start with my takeaway from "Fresh", it left me with many thoughts and emotions about the origins of our food. It made me question the systems and the industries that produce our food. Fresh is not only a typically documentary film so that viewers can learn about what's really going on when we get food on our plates, but also a wake-up call to consider how our food is grown, processed, and delivered onto our plates. The purpose of the film is to raise awareness about the industrial food production system and its consequences on health, the environment, and society. I think standout moments that really bring an effective approach for the viewers to think more critically about their food is with the contrast between industrial farming practices compared to the more hopeful and ethical alternatives. I think it's most expressed with the story of Joel Salatin, and how he runs his farm. He practices sustainable agriculture that works in harmony with nature rather than against it. We see how his livestock is frequently moved to fresh pastures and that this technique keeps the animals healthy and happy along with rejuvenating the soil and eliminating the need for chemical fertilizers. I think that "Fresh" even today is a great film that can tackle and shed light on issues about food culture and the food industries. And I understand that as Americans, we like to be blissfully ignorant about where are food comes from and focus on just eating food, but "Fresh" reminds us that living in ignorance comes at a cost. By understanding where our food comes from and how it's produced from many different perspectives of farmers and other experts, we can become make informed choice that benefit not only our health but Earth. And by learning these choices have impacts, we have stay informed on how to move forward in creating more both sustainable and ethical food systems.
I'm intrigued at what your takeaways were from the film (if you watched it), or how it affected how you thought about food.
